According to Rolling Stone, Rihanna is working on not one but TWO albums at the moment.

Rolling Stone says that Rihanna will release a ‘pop-oriented record’ along with a ‘dancehall-style LP.’  Back in May, Rihanna dished to Vogue‘s Chioma Nnadi that she was planning on releasing a reggae album, “With her next record—her ninth—Rihanna is moving the needle on her creative output all over again: She plans to make a reggae album. Though it’s too soon to name a full list of collaborators, one early influence may be Supa Dups, the Jamaican-born record producer who has worked with such dancehall greats as Beenie Man, Sean Paul, and Elephant Man.”

And a dancehall-styled LP shouldn’t surprise you too much since Rihanna has already explored similar sounds.  From ‘Man Down’ (2010) to ‘You Da One’ (2011) to ‘Work (2016) which by the way, was supposed to channel a pop beat.  PARTYNEXTDOOR, who co-wrote ‘Work’ told Rolling Stone back in 2016, “It was supposed to be a pop beat.  It turned into a reggae beat because I sang in patois, but because Rihanna is from Barbados, culturally, she got it right away.”

Rolling Stone also claims that Rihanna’s people have already eight songs approved.  A source close to Rihanna / producer told Rolling Stone, “They’re only choosing 10 records. They’ve been having writing camps and trying to keep them quiet for almost a year and a half now. I’ve been flying to Miami, flying to L.A., cutting records nonstop for this project.”

It’s been two years since Rihanna dropped music. Since then, she’s been hard at work with all of her FENTY brands (makeup brand and most recently, her lingerie line) so yes, new music from Rihanna is WELL NEEDED!
