The Whistler Sliding Centre has announced their earliest start to the season since 2010.

In a release the facility says the first athletes sliding on the ice will begin as early as September 25th. With the first months reserved exclusively for athlete training and competitions. The Canadian National Team as well as international athletes will be making full use of the site.

The facility will be opening early at the request of Canada’s National Team, who wanted to get on the ice as early as possible as it is an Olympic year; “It was a very quick turnover from summer to winter, but our crew worked incredibly hard to prepare the track and make the ice. We are excited that we can provide a bit of a training advantage to our athletes on their way to PyeongChang 2018″ said Tracy Seitz, Managing Director of the Whistler Sliding Centre. Other international teams competing at PyeonChang have also booked ice time.

The seven day process of ice making started on Monday, with the 2017/18 season running until April 1st 2018. Public bobsleigh and skeleton will start on December 16th. This year is the 10th anniversary of the facility and will feature the IBSF World Cup Bobsleigh & Skeleton on November 24th and 25th.
