Hey, it’s MJ from Mountain Afternoons! If you have followed me on-air and on social media for the last few years, you know that I am pretty open about my life. Recently, I had an opportunity to tackle one of my biggest insecurities and I decided it was important to share that process with you. In all honesty, I was intimidated to share something so intimate, but if it helps at least one person then it’s worth it. Getting “work done” is something most people go to the grave with – which is perfectly okay – however, I always said I would use my voice and platform to share true life experiences. Before we dive into all the fun, I wanted to address WHAT I am getting done and most importantly, WHY.

I am a huge advocate for self love. I believe our looks, our “flaws”, our quirks are exactly what make us who we are. If you are like myself, you look at people in your life who you love and you can’t find a single “flaw”. However, when we look at ourselves it’s a whole other story. A lot of us look in the mirror and notice the things we would want to change rather than seeing the true beauty that we are. While it’s important to love yourself for WHO you are I also think self love comes in other forms. It’s being nice to yourself. Kind. Gentle. It’s following your heart and doing what’s best for YOU. That’s why I do believe that if you have an insecurity that you want to fix, if you believe it will help your confidence and improve your life, then do it. Watching your biggest insecurities dissipate before your own eyes can be one of the most therapeutic and life changing things. Whether it’s as simple as a hair cut to getting a nose job, you have to do what makes YOU happy.

For myself, I have been super self conscious of my side profile for years. I felt as though my chin was recessing more as I aged and that I had no jaw line. I looked into every option, even returning to my orthodontist years after braces to see if I would need them again to correct my obvious overbite. With not enough money for jaw surgery, braces or a full on permanent chin augmentation I looked at different options. That’s when I heard about Dermal Fillers.

Dermal fillers are small injections of gel, made up of hylauronic acid, that fill in wrinkles and add volume to soft tissue. You can have dermal fillers in different parts of your face: around the eye, cheeks, mouth and jawline, as well as lip fillers administered directly into the lip tissue. Fillers basically restore lost volume to your face and plump areas and have been used for decades to restore lost volume or add lift. (Explained better in the video)

After nearly a year of watching YouTube videos and reading articles I was set on getting them. Then I heard Dr. Sarah Kennea from Whistler Medical Aesthetics on Mountain FM talking about Dermal Fillers and booked an appointment.

I cannot even put into words how happy I am to have found Dr. Sarah Kennea. From the moment I walked in the door Dr. Sarah made me feel so comfortable and at ease. In our first consult I was blown away by all her knowledge; sometimes it’s not easy to open up about your insecurities, but with Sarah it was so nice to speak with someone who listened, understood and was so real and honest. It was important to me to find a doctor who understood my values and “self love” reasoning for getting something done. It was so nice that Dr. Sarah shared the same ideals.

With sharing this, I know I will receive some black lash. I just want to be clear that in no way am I saying you have to look a certain way, fit a certain criteria or change in any way. I do however support those who are exploring options for their own well-being and confidence and hope this can shed some light on options and be used in an educational format. I know I would have appreciated it while I was doing my research. Thanks for your support and understanding.

Without further ado… he is the video of me getting fillers!

I seriously cried when I got home and couldn’t stop looking in the mirror. I am so grateful I made this decision to do this for myself. Dr. Sarah is a miracle worker. I highly recommend booking at least a consultation with Dr. Sarah if you were ever considering getting something done.

Thank-you for following me on my journey and accepting me for who I am. I am working every day to love myself and work on my confidence. Working at Mountain FM and having your support has helped me grow into the person that I am today.

“Love yourself first, because that’s who you’ll be spending the rest of your life with.”
